Hip Hop Discovery – Josh Jacobs x Kon Boogie, Werdperfect, 2nd Verse

Josh Jacobs’ new track “Landfill” with Kon Boogie is out now. The track’s witty punchlines and clever politically driven bars show Jacobs is not afraid to take a stance and use his music as a beneficial platform.

“Landfill” is backed by what sounds to me like a Mariachi sample, which further supports Jacobs’ lyrics about taking pride in his Hispanic background. The track comes at a perfect time considering the state of the world, and once again proves that Jacobs’ motive behind his music is much more important than entertainment.

Werdperfect’s “Thank You” has been released. Werdperfect’s motivational lyrics in this song are often delivered with subtle melodies in his voice, adding a bit of differentiation from one section to the next.

The melodic chopped sample is led by its vibey guitars, and provides a warm texture that compliments Werdperfect’s voice perfectly. The modest Boom Bap drums leave him the perfect amount of room to showcase a diverse set of flows and help listeners concentrate on his lyrical compositions.

“No Stoppin,” the new track from 2nd Verse, is a gritty Boom Bap anthem that’s simple, but hits hard. Record scratches and random vocal chops are reminiscent of classic DJ Premier production, but the instrumental really sounds like it could fit perfectly on a number of Griselda records.

2nd Verse’s nonchalant flow differs from the traditional aggressive delivery I’m used to hearing on instrumentals like this, but ironically it feels even more menacing. The unique rhyming patterns and relatively moderate tempo show that fast paced trap beats aren’t necessary to make an exhilarating anthem like this one.
