Best New Indie – sundayclub, Slender Dan, Anthony Ruptak, little truck

sundayclub has come out swinging with their debut single release under Paper Bag Records. The tune is called Bannatyne, an infectiously catchy indie pop song that touches on the mental turmoil associated with new new relationships. We dig the mix of dreamy textures and synth tones with more traditional indie rock instrumentation; each element blending together flawlessly in this masterful production. The intimate vocal style and reverb-washed harmonies utilized throughout this one contribute further to the dreamy, ethereal vibe created through its instrumentation.

Fans of the Cocteau Twins and Beach House will instantly connect with this dream pop oriented and female driven sound. sundayclub nails the nostalgic feelings of their contemporaries right on the head. We look forward to hearing more.

Slender Dan immediately caught our attention with their latest single release, “I Had A Feeling Today,” a fresh and experimental indie rock tune that can only be described as groundbreakingly inventive. We love the introduction here. An syncopated drum and bass groove starts us off, leading to multiple guitar layers and a lead vocal melody that features elite use of vibrato. Building off of this intriguing groove into the verse sections, we are introduced to moody synth tones and atmospheric vocal harmonies and layering that we cannot get enough of.

We hear a mix of Slowdive and Portishead in this band’s style; elements of both dream pop and trip hop are blended here, creating something truly new and exciting for the indie scene. Keep Slender Dan on your radar.

You need to hear “Tourist,” the title track from Anthony Ruptak‘s upcoming self titled 2025 LP. We love the groove in this one. The entire band is locked in throughout this tune, showcasing masterful musicianship through that classic indie rock sound. Guitar and keys playing in unison, the incredible drum fills, and the chord progressions are all on point and contribute heavily to this tune’s anthemic, fun vibe. We dig the raw, authentic vocal style presented here as well; it matches the busy, confident feeling of its backing instrumentation.

We think that fans of those classic indie rock bands like Dinosaur Jr. or Arctic Monkeys will have no problem connecting with the music from Anthony Ruptak. Be on the lookout for his next full album release coming later this year.

little truck recently dropped a 5 song EP called slow planet 931, and we absolutely dig the title track. This authentically moody and minimalistic style instantly has us hooked. We love the introduction; walls of instrumentation slapping us in the face without being too overbearing, leaving gaps for the vocal melody to establish itself. We are carried from chorus to verse with intriguing, aesthetic guitar lines that assist the feelings of nostalgia and obsession revealed by the lyricism. The vocals are nothing short of up close and intimate, sung with a tinge of sadness that listeners can easily relate to.

We hear similarities to the music from Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine here, exemplified by their shoegaze vibe and alternative style. We look forward to hearing more from this massively talented emerging indie rock band.
