Hip Hop Discovery – Xephyrine x MIC, Harry Edohouka, Christopha

Xephyrine has teamed up with MIC for their new collaboration “Lust.” The groovy Boom Bap track’s beat sounds like something Saba could rap on. The harmonic piano composition is backed by strings and synths that fill in all the right gaps.

To me, Xephyrine’s style of rapping and singing feels like a blend of Doja Cat and Samara Cyn. With an instrumental that stems back to Hip Hop’s Golden Age, Xephyrine and MIC’s charismatic presence keeps the song refreshingly modern.

Harry Edohouka has returned with his new track “h e l l o s a n i t y” off of his EP of the same name. During the track’s introduction, Edohouka’s energy is reminiscent of both ICECOLDBISHOP and E L U C I D with his energetic delivery and unique off-beat style of rhyming.

Less than a minute into the track, a new beat is introduced that carries on the Rock influences of the initial production. Something about the second part of the track reminds me of Paris Texas, but Edohouka’s low pitched vocal layering and screaming brings a fresh twist to the style.

Christopha’s new track “Stand Out” has been released. The trap beat is laced with subtle melodic instrumentation that includes pianos, vibey guitars and dreamy bells. The modest drums are driven by quick hi hat rolls and a heavy kick and snare.

Something about Chritopha’s vocal tendencies and delivery reminds me of Boldy James. Christopha never lets off the gas, especially during the lively verses. The insightful lyrics on this song are delivered with confidence and assurance, making them hold even more weight.
