Emerging Folk – Laura Lucas, Christian List, Mose Wilson

Laura Lucas is immediately infectious with her latest single release, “Easy, Going,” an intimately heartfelt tune with themes of yearning for lost love. The vocal performance displayed here is nothing short of masterful. She speaks from the soul, beginning the song with a dry lead vocal track without any help from studio effects. We hear her natural, authentic voice, brimming with emotion. The harmonies are also noteworthy, softly interjecting each chorus, adding an atmospheric sonic layer to this mix that can only be described as euphoric. The production is exceptional, the instrumentation is intoxicating, and the energy is elite.

Fans of Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker will instantly connect with this emerging modern indie-folk sensation. We always look forward to hearing more from Laura, make sure to keep her on your radar.

You need to hear Christian List‘s newest single, “Back in the Days,” a classic americana indie-folk song that has us feeling right at home. We dig the instrumentation in this one; a pedal steel guitar taking the forefront, almost singing along with the vocal tracks. Angelic organ tones, biting lead guitar tones, and delicate acoustic guitar tones combine in this consummate production, creating a soundscape that feels fresh and exciting. The vocal work is on point here; Christian showcases an intimate, delicate style that flawlessly blends with his female-driven background vocals. The tone set by this tune’s chord progression is equally as fresh as its instrumentation and vocal performance.

We hear similarities to the music from Ray Lamontagne and James Taylor here, bridging the gap between modern indie-folk and old school americana in this one. Be on the lookout for more from this massively underrated folk artist.

Mose Wilson is back with a new album called That’s Love, and we really dig the title track. This one is viciously moody, to say the least. It speaks on the paradoxical, bittersweet nature of love; diving into its duality and contradictory complexion. Mose describes love as both happy and sad, both pleasure and pain, both truth and vain. He ensures that his listener understands love as the beautifully messy, core experience of being human in this wonderfully performed acoustic ballad. We love the emotional vocal performance and the latin instrumental vibe here, both elements merging together, forming a melancholic ambience that we cannot get enough of.

Fans of Chris Stapleton and Henry Jamison will instantly connect with this artists classic american folk sound. We highly recommend checking his music out if you are looking for a refreshing take on the modern indie-folk scene.
