Best New Rock – Kallai, Tarul, REVERSE YR CURSE, Sideshift

The Wave, Kallai‘s new single, made a strong impression on us, allowing us to instantly connect with the buzzing textures of this track. The electric guitar melody, equipped with overdrive and reverb, entrances you with its expressive progression of chords. The vocals are light and float above the instrumental, evoking a joyful, childlike, wondrous vibe.

The instrumental is composed in a soul-stirring way, bringing unique and dreamy melodies to your ears. It allows you to tap into the nostalgic, serene atmosphere created through staple attributes of the shoegaze genre. If you’re in the Portland area, their next show will be there on August 24. Check out this track for yourself and get lost in its enchanting sounds.

We can’t get enough of this new single from Tarul, titled Baccus. It catches you under its wave of vibrant, upbeat sounds comprised of shimmering electric guitar, persistent bass, and catchy drums. It’s especially worth noting the texture of the drums, as the snare’s tone has a strong punch, creating an ecstatic effect on the instrumental as a whole.

The alternative-indie vibe of this artist is similar to music from The Strokes and Arcade Fire. We appreciate that this track doesn’t fail to exhilarate you, keeping you from slowing down during your day. This track is to be one of many on his upcoming concept album, “Blood So Thick It Clots In The Veins,” so give this one a listen in the meantime.

WHO CARES by REVERSE YR CURSE highly impressed us with not only their impressive composition, but the creativity of the music video that goes with it. This group is truly innovative with their rhythmic approach to this track, playing around with different tempos and time signatures, performed beautifully on the guitar and drum set.

The melodies and riffs of the instrumental are poetic and raw, written to be unpredictable. Matching the instrumental’s power are the vocals, which hold passionate harmonies. This track is released in anticipation of their upcoming LP, “Where Are We Going and When Will We Get There?” Check out this visionary single, you won’t wanna wait for the next one.

We were fascinated by Sideshift‘s new single, Take What You Give, which stood out to us for its funky and brilliant electric guitar riffs. The performance of the guitar is full of raw, powerful energy, dancing around the fretboard with satisfying melodies. The guitarist pulls it all off while singing simultaneously, impressively giving an equal amount of energy.

The drums are especially notable in this track, as the rhythmic energy of the electric guitar is matched, while the drummer fully explores the percussive textures of the drum set to its max. Based in NYC, New Jersey, and Long Island, this band’s new track is from their debut self-titled EP. We appreciate the high energy of this band and can’t wait for their future.
