Emerging Folk – Her Mountain Majesty, Edward Gild, Sam Burchfield, Shabason/Krgovich/Tenniscoats

Her Mountain Majesty is back with their latest album release, Above the Water, and we love the eighth track, “Echoes.” The authentic, raw vocal style presented here instantly captured our attention. We dig the feelings of longing and aspiration that are displayed through both vocal performance and instrumental work here, each musical element flawlessly dancing around the next in this masterful production.

The traditional strings used in this one have us feeling right at home, pairing beautifully with acoustic guitar and percussion tracks here. We hear similarities to the music from Laura Marling and Brandi Carlile in this one, bridging the gap between atmospheric modern indie-folk artists and more traditional folk influences. Do not miss out in this massively talented emerging artist.

Emerging indie-folk singer songwriter Edward Gild is back with his latest single release, “Beside Me,” a moody, eclectic tune that instantly has us wanting more. We love the vocal performance in this one. Introduced humbly alongside a plucked acoustic guitar pattern, Edward gives himself an opportunity to show off his chops. The song builds off of this pairing, slowly introducing stringed instrumentation and light percussive elements that drive the groove into new places.

The production here is nothing short of exceptional. We hear multiple instrumental elements masterfully placed in the background of this soundscape, accelerating the feelings brought on by its lyricism. Fans of Bon Iver and James Blake will instantly connect with this fresh, inventive sound.

Sam Burchfield has returned to the indie-folk scene with his latest single release, “Stay (Betty Blue),” a wonderfully euphoric and comforting tune that has us feeling right at home. We love the intimate, relaxed vocal style presented here; Sam has us reeling in emotion with his nostalgic, sentimental lyricism. We always dig classic acoustic folk instrumentation as well, complete with plucked banjo and strummed guitar tracks that we cannot get enough of.

Fans of Noah Kahan and Ben Howard will instantly find themselves at home with this modernized, indie take on that classic folk sound. Do not let this artist slip under your radar; we look forward to hearing more.

Joseph Shabason, Nicholas Krgovich, and Tenniscoats recently collaborated on “Lose My Breath,” a melancholic tune brimming with moody, dark emotion. The atmosphere created in this tune is almost breathtaking, with ethereal synth tones and lofi guitar sounds that we adore. We love the juxtaposition between chorus and verse in this one; seamlessly transitioning between dark and light moods with the use of instrumental dissonance, only to be truly resolved in the last few measures. The piano and guitar tones are dreamy, the droning vocal tones are intoxicating, and the vibe is all there.

We hear similarities to the music from Donna Missal and Gregory Alan Isakov in this one, bridging the gap between edgy, female fronted indie-pop and modern, ambiance-centered indie-folk. We highly recommend checking out this emerging artist and look forward to hearing more ourselves.
