Hip Hop Discovery – Brandon White, Psych Major x Supastition, DarkGable, switch1eighty x Chino XL

Brandon White’s “BiG FiSH” is out now. His charismatic flow is layered with a vocal line pitched down an octave which gives the song a dark and menacing tone. The use of effects feels like a blend between Ameer Vann and Armani White. He uses a clever rhyming pattern that effortlessly bounces off of the heavy spaced-out drums.

The sinister piano that drives the production is backed by subtle guitar licks and vocal samples. White utilizes an array of vocal tones to differentiate the varying sections of the song, which keeps things interesting and prevents sonic restriction.

“Doubters Disease” is the new track by Psych Major and Supastition. With drums that feel reminiscent of Mac Miller’s “Perfect Circle / God Speed,” the track is as dark and gritty as it gets. The old school flow fits into the beat like a puzzle piece and brings a refreshing spin to a forgotten age of Hip-Hop.

The heavy and aggressive delivery compliments the rhythmically driven production perfectly. Ominous bells are sprinkled throughout the track, but the primary focal point of the production is the gritty synth bass that works hand in hand with the drums.

DarkGable has returned with his new track “Homicidal Machines.” His unpredictable flow is similar to the likes of E L U C I D and billy woods. The gloomy guitar loop that acts as the main melodic aspect of the song is simple yet essential.

The tracks Boom Bap drums are subtly saturated, which compliments the muffled guitar sample. DarkGable’s autobiographical lyrics cover a chronological story and give the song a subject matter to listen for.

switch1eighty and Chino XL have teamed up for their new track “Santa Muerte.” Their contrasting flows bring a sense of diversity to the track and maintain a sense of excitement from beginning to end. Chino XL leads off the track with his charismatic delivery and witty bars.

switch1eighty takes over the second half of the song with his sporadic flow that feels like it satisfyingly collapses upon itself. He rhymes over the cinematic orchestral sample without miscalculating a step, making sure to not fall rhythmically out of place while testing the limitations of pronunciation.
