Emerging Folk – Wintur, Dellwood, Lorc D, Meredith Adelaide, Yoah Johanne

Wintur takes on Writer’s Block with an imaginative new single that feel anything but stuck. The artist admits its more about finding originality in their work than not being able to come up with anything at all. Stylistically its an entrancing dynamic work that sees beyond the confides of chord and voice. The bedrock is reasonably simple, but on the surface things appear to be moving violently. Its a testament to the saturated mix and harsh texture. We love it.

Dellwood has a new single called The Animals and it shook us like a mantra. There’s a haunting reverence to this chorus. Balanced with the introspective nature of the intersecting verse section, Dellwood’s Animal is a personified ghost in song. Stylistically it’s a sure thing for fans of Bon Iver or Joji. Anyone can feel this vibe.

For Lorc D, the realizations come in rushes on their new single I’m Away. Those instant revelations give way to the singers melodic essence as a surefire guitars whips through aggressive fits. Stylistically they blend elements of Irish and Island into an indie folk punk aura. It all blends effectively and offers the artist an eclectic reach. Whether your into Petey or Mumford Sons, you’re going to dig this.

Meredith Adelaide is an illusionist on her new single What Do I Know. The apt title embraces its sarcastic quip within this inspired narrative. With lyrical prowess Adelaide shows she knows a bit about herself in contempt of the peanut choir that aims to break her spirit. She balances that tempered aggression with some melodic beauty while offering this tirade in the songs designed dramatic resolutions. It builds to a dirty churning underbelly that lands convincing. Stylistically its a bit of Springsteen and Big Thief spun more pretty. We find it entrancing.

Yoah Johanne wades among calm waters on the cover of her single Floors. The image lands sacred as something deep resonates from the spirit of this song. It evolves abstract and much like our storied universe it breaks the rules and boundaries we set upon it. Floors is about a feeling and doesn’t care what you might make of its components. It lends itself to the wild and candid tendencies of an attentive musician. Like a caretaker of some musical floral, these flowers grow wild. It’s beautiful and abstract indie folk that should connect with fans of Fleet Foxes or Darlingside.
