Best New Rock – Quarters, Rose Of The World, Snowcuffs, Eliza Noxon, Sisters

Quarters drop an anthem with their recent single STAR. A mainstream commercial rock banger with subtle indie charm, STAR casts a wide net in the world of rock. The track was co-produced with Imad Royal (Panic! at the Disco, Oliver Tree, Doja Cat). The fidelity is appropriately high, with modern sonic treats holding your attention to the last second. Its the inspired emotional complexity of this vocal performance that will leave you floored.

Rose Of The World caught our attention with their new single Vitamin. Full of exciting variation and seemingly candid, the dramatic shifts swing in tandem with the singer emotional narrative. Its a cool blend of indie and 80s alternative influences and like REM and The Replacements. We love that aura, but this is anything but derivative. The deeper you get, the better it gets.

A wash of furious noise cloaks the atmosphere in the intro for In Blue, the new single from Snowcuffs. This convincing synthesis of dreamy rock honors its shoegaze influences while stepping to its own unique occasion. There’s a haunting exotic contrast to the singers voice. Her timbre at times resembles Bjork, which provides an interesting construct within this arrangement. Melodically the bands bears beautiful dissonance, injecting the melodic essence of The Smiths into this shoegaze noise pop vibe. We love that.

Eliza Noxon is ready to drop her debut album. The single You is a poignant slow burn worthy of a debut single. It’s an introspective outline of her aesthetic. There’s sneaky evidence of pop influence, a detail that benefits her ability to write interesting vocal lines to compliment her musics indie rock ethos. There’s an explosive nature too. Stylistically we hear evidence of Feist and Kathleen Edwards. Keep an eye out for her debut in the spring; Good Monsters with Bad Habits.

We’re digging a lot of what we’re hearing from Sisters. The UK export just dropped their EP Bite and all six tracks show a dynamic approach that stays on brand. Stylistically they’re a sure thing for fans of Mannequin Pussy or Bully. That new movement in ruthless female leads who embrace an influence of emo hardcore and punk within an indie rock ethos is absolutely worth the hype. The UK is breeding some of the best of ’em, and we think Sisters is poised to break through. Hang on to the whole EP and don’t miss the final statement You’re A Genius.
