“You’ve been on my mind, more than usual today.” Henry Grace drops a sentimental gem with his recent single California Rain. Lyrical substance evokes collateral memories as your psyche interprets these sentiments and bends them relatable. Everything can be great in your life and you can still miss someone. The moments not the same when you can’t share it with them. Grace embraces that truth and dressed it in a convincing indie folk package that evokes the a classic songwriter aesthetic. There’s a touch of Springsteen to this vibe, altered with the adapted influence of War On Drugs and lost in some indie folk Americana influenced sway. We adore it.

Marika Che is trying to make sense of it all with her new single Hot Moon. Not taking life too seriously seems to be catching up with this protagonist on the relatable gem. Here carefree delivery translates effectively. Che is convincing within this lyrical construct. In that way she recalls Sheryl Crow’s lucid touch, altered with some modern indie flavor familiar to Haim. This one feels good.

Nashville based country folkies The Brook & The Bluff find serenity in their recent release Baby Blue. Classic harmonies leave room for the focal singer while dressing the harmonious plane around him colorfully. A carefully calculated rhythmic swaggers gives Baby Blue some soulful sway. It gets you out of your seat while keeping you in your headspace until the exciting Beatles-esque rock breakdown. The band is smart and precise. Overall its a clean product while retaining an authentic true band quality. Stylistically we think its a sure thing for fans of Dawes or Hiss Golden Messenger.

Blue Tomorrows recalls surf mecca’s complicated winter on their recent single Santa Cruz (Memory Blues). Dreamy and gloriously nostalgic, Blue Tomorrows somehow manages to find the middle ground between The Beach Boys, Beach House, and ABBA. Its a testament to the melodic sensibility, sonic approach, and clever melody play. Its a sweet tribute. It’s not on Spotify so you’ll have to double dip in the video above!
