Women of Trip Hop – ISLE, Ex Vacuo, Solbore

Its hard to imagine modern indie pop with the influence of trip hop. That understated 90’s subculture felt like a flash in the pan compared to the decades other celebrated exports, but trip hop’s influence flourishes beyond the realms of soundtracks and nightclubs. You can hear its inspiration on both indie and modern pop in excess; so much so that the lines are blurred between what it is and what it isn’t. Regardless, for certain you can celebrate the Women who made it so magnetic. From Portishead to Moloko to Bjork, Trip Hop is bountiful in the innovative Female spirit. One that embraces darker realms mirroring images of femme fatale agents and empowered sultry seducers.

Some still stay true to the ethos of its founders. Here our are favorite recent trip hop discoveries. Hear them here and find them again on our Women of Trip Hop Playlist.
