We’re big fans of Sweet Gravity, the new 4 songs EP from Chicago dream pop band Snowcuffs. The milestone release shows the band has all it needs to ensure fandemonium. The vocals are entrancing and addictive while the music lands immersive and exciting. Stylistically they embrace an influence of Mazzy Star and Alvvays while offering a heavier rock vibe within that aura. It can be heard within the exotic blend of Burst, which sounds like Bjork fronting an emo influenced indie rock band. The single Sunless adapts with interpretive dance potential; retaining a sense of rare melancholy despite its peppy demeanor. It finds the middle ground between The Smiths and Smashing Pumpkins. The single Cold Memories is more brooding and mixed with tempered appeal, as its noisy design is guaranteed to hit huge in concert. Altogether the EP is a crazy strong release guaranteed to please all realms of indie fans.

Mary Middlefield continues to evolve with an acquired attitude and edge. Her recent Take me as I am is a scathing rapid fire tirade full of unapologetic quip. Her confidence breaks for spurts of unrequited longing in the songs contrasting chorus, a scene that finds her as an aggressive damsel demanding to be longed on her own terms. The energized urgency of the rock arrangements suggests Middlefield has some built up angst to work through on stage, offering a collective release in the songs fast paced design. Stylistically she blends the worlds of Cake and Paramore on this impressive performance.
