Indie Folk Music Videos We Love – The Ballroom Thieves, Nicolas Michaux, Angus & Julia Stone, Flower Face

It’s our weekly Music Video discovery segment, and this time it’s genre specific! It was just simply by chance, but we’re not made about it. Get to know the new Emerging Indie Folk releases we love!

The Ballroom Thieves drop an introspective Americana musical gift with their recent Everything Is Everything.  The kind of song to serve as a soundtrack for self discovery, the group amplifies that affect with an inspiring music video.  Stylized with nostalgic flavor and boosted by a clever narrative, the video is full of charm much like the project itself.

Singer Calin Peters serves as the humble video vixen. Her magnetism is partially about her serenity and how it comforts you, how her patient fluid movements offer some pause and reflection.  Their music seduces you to sit and listen.  Fans of smart alt country songwriters like Brandi Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov are sure things, but we think it’s a song for everyone.  A timeless gem.

A gorgeous barren chrome landscape sets the emotive framework at the opening of the video for She’s An Easy Rider, the new single from Nicolas Michaux.  Life is fleeting and within this gorgeous video tribute the legacy of a stricken wild spirit gets immortalized in this haunting tribute.  This elegant narrative packs so much feeling and backstory into a tight package.  From the setting to the costumery to the inspired performance, She’s An Easy Rider is absolutely brilliant.  Stylistically the song connects with artists like Sparklehorse, of Montreal, and Father John Misty.  Paired with the video, its a revelation.

Angus & Julia Stone embrace their artistic reverence in the video for their new single Losing You.  This gorgeous video features impressive dark cinematography with a concept that reflects the songs vibe and narrative.  From the mastery of lighting and shadows to the intoxicating fades used throughout, Losing You is a milestone the couple’s fans will return to graciously throughout their life.

It’s a gorgeous portrait of their essence with incredible choreography featuring elements of both modern dance and ballet.  Already enjoying success and a growing fanbase, the video should bring more attention to their project.  We were into them, but it honestly made us bigger fans.  Both the single and video shed them in an exciting new light, one breaks barriers on their stylistic scope.  Check it out.

Is it real or are they fictitious visions born from obsessive desire.  Flower Face blew us away with their new single Cat’s Cradle and its impressive companion video.

The Songwriter has real star potential in a landmark performance that could land her the lead role in a film about a scorned former lover.  Elegantly shot and impressively cut, the video is a stand alone triumph and the song is the perfect soundtrack for this devilish story.  See for yourself.
