Hip Hop Discovery – Pavy, Muja & Dub Sonata, Ghost Cartridge

Yep he went there.  Don’t say he didn’t warn you.  Pavy keeps it real on his new single If She Wasn’t Engaged.  The narrative doesn’t stray far from what the title suggests, and despite that limited construct Pavy keeps it interesting and intriguing.  It’s a testament to his ability as a wordsmith and his truly lucid imaginative style.

It’s catchy too, in a way that reflects the glorious early 90s, when singing about romance in rap was still intelligent.  The glorious times before it was all butts and booty slapping.  Pavy brings that intellect into the new single, reflecting a vibe familiar to J Cole or Wale.  Check it out.

Muja & Dugb Sonata – Put It Inna Book ft Nazeem of Blood $moke Body

Oh damn this is a vibe.  That’s how we felt the first time we heard Put It Inna Book ft Nazeem of Blood $moke Body.  The new single from Muja x Dub Sonata lands old school fresh without feeling derivative.

The group bridge the gap between Wu-Tang, Cyprus Hill, and Arrested Development.  As if Arrested Development rapped about hard shit but kept it lyrically conscious.  Maybe it’s just how we’re vibing with this chorus and the fact that video shows them in like a library or bookstore or something.  That’s cool though, see for yourself (video above).

Ghost Cartridge – Heard a Ghost (ft Stilz)

We dig the fresh boom bap genius of Ghost Cartridge.  Whether it’s their abstract instrumentals or the illustrious tangled poetry of features like Heard a Ghost, the duos genius stands out.  Beyond the rap, Heard A Ghost features a turntable solo courtesy of Stilz.  These new school beat program whack producers don’t know about this kind of classic construction and they couldn’t figure out a turntable beyond plugging it in.

Not only to Ghost Cartidge and Stilz nail the vibe, but they bring it proper.  Heard a Ghost would stand out in any era.  Dare we say we even hear a touch of Zach De La Rocha in the turntable portion adlibs.  Also for fans of Run the Jewels and classic boom bap.
