Emerging Folk – Loose Wing, Sun V Set, Michael Isaak, Katherine Paterson

Loose Wing land classic with their nostalgic breakthrough single Country Numbers.  Vintage vibes that trend elusive, Country Numbers recalls a vibe known to The Band and Joni Mitchell with an authenticity that shines like a long lost musical reel treasure.

It’s a testament to Country Numbers intriguing melodic movement and effective arrangement.  It’s a detail lost on modern country Americana, but Loose Wing gives it a fitting revival and matches that intellect with a dark vinyl era mix.  Most notably, Country Numbers captures that aura without replicating any song specifically.  They show that there’s more room to roam within this vibe.

Sun V Set grabbed our attention with the exotic power of Water Curse.  The instinctual compositional vibe feels inherited from some ancient musical lineage.  It’s updated with modern sonic reverence, subtly using effects to accentuate its dark undertones.

Water Curse features a gorgeous arrangement fit for proficient players.  The clever progressive movements dressed in this indie folk inspired package recall recent works from Fleet Foxes with some of the stylistic vibes known to Big Thief.  We also hear the experimental appeal of Grizzly Bear.  We don’t offer these exclusive comparisons lightly.  Hear for yourself.

We were drawn into the melodic contrast heard on okay with this, the new single from Michael Isaak.  The arrangement mirrors a modern indie folk vibe akin to Darlingside, while Michael’s melodic nature cites an influence of late 90s emo pop alternative.

We find that blend intoxicating, a style that also recalls the recent work of underground alt-folk heroes Good Old War.   Both serene and catchy, Isaak pens an instant classic with broad appeal.  You can lose yourself in this cinematic vibe, or groove in tandem with the timely drum introduction.

Katherine Paterson bears her vintage soul on the expressive new single Artemis.  Memories of Simon and Garfunkel flow from this harmonious composition as Paterson offers a rich work in spite of modern pops riff revolving inclinations.

The affect is entirely refreshing and Paterson as a writer bears an expansive imaginative pen within this style.  Remnants of Joni Mitchell and more modernly Adrianne Lenker are also fair comparison to chart this vibe.  One things for certain, Artemis is loveable.
