Mystery Friends elegantly chart the line between dance pop and retro wave on their succulent new release Fever Dream. They dropped a killer video too, check it out!
An intoxicating seductive female vocal interrupts the dark mysterious intro. It pulls back the shade on what develops into a more upbeat composition, one that cites an influence of disco and how it influenced 80s new wave pop. An array of tasteful sparkling layers, tickling percussion, and swirling atmospheric soft synths enhance the tracks rotating affect. It enhances it cinematic presence, as Fever Dream evolves like a journey in song. It’s a gloriously catchy single, one that will equally connect with fans of synthwave and chill dance pop.

There’s a genuine charm that permeates from Day by Day, the new single from Love People. It’s heard in both the sonic aesthetic and in the trademark hook. It’s a signature moment; a proper chorus that enhances the songs collective impact. It wears its influence while uncovering new realms that reign familiar.
It’s a haunting discovery, a moment you’ve sworn you’ve heard before while knowing quite well it’s all their own. Stylistically we hear an intriguing blend the recalls the classic works of Depeche Mode or The Thompson Twins with some of the modern indie sensibility known to Future Islands. Day By Day is a triumph.

Katie Tich blends multiple musical aesthetics convincingly with the UAP collaboration for the Transatlantic Friendship Remix of our her single When I Met You. If that sounds like a collaboration pretzel then you read it right. The project could be a master class on how production changes the aura of a composition. In one light this could be a Nashville Country Pop anthem, but produced in this manner it has more in common with the synthwave works of bands like Von Kaiser and The Midnight. One things for certain, When I Met You features an undeniable hook with anthemic qualities. Hear for yourself.

Public Circuit drop a rare lofi retro pop gem with their new single Caustic Cross. In contrast to synthwave, Public Circuit bypasses the lure of modern tech for a more lofi inspired approach, one that has more in common with shoegaze than cyberpunk. It suits the compositions blend of dark synth pop and post punk.
The aggressive sexual tension of the lyrics recalls how we imagine New Order might have developed if Ian Curtis lived on. We also hear fair references to Human League and Soft Cell. It’s an instant classic for lofi retro lovers.
