Emerging Alt Country Americana – Abby Webster, The Ballroom Thieves, The Prairie Joggers, Humbird

Abby Webster is our kind of singer.  She leans into what a broadway singer might find unconventional and lets it shine.  It’s the same charm that vintage rust brings to your Feng Shui.  Always on pitch but occasionally cracking and croaking percussively, Webster sings like she knows these features have a legacy in classic country.

Webster’s style is sometimes referred to as twang. She adds an indie alteration that cites a sensibility akin to Big Thief.  In that same manner her new single Sea Goat effectively resides between the realm of broad indie and alt country.  No matter how you swing it, we simply love it.

The Ballroom Thieves – Right On Time

The Ballroom Thieves drop a contemplative Indie Americana gem with their new single Right On Time.  Simple but convincing, the band reminds us that originality is as much a testament to the spirit and the deliverance as it is a reflection of how you organize those 12 cherished notes.

Right On Time feels new within a familiar construct, one that connects with projects like Rayland Baxter or The Head and the Heart.  Right on Time is a sure things for fans of that style, but in a way where it’ll carve out its own space.  It’s both a reflections of how they play their instruments and some of the lofi Heavy Heavy style analog sheen they bring to the presentation.  We love it.

The Prairie Joggers let the good times roll on their new single Deep Valley.  In the opening moments the amp buzz stays in the mix as authenticity rings true from this Americana smokeshow.

It’s the kind of song meant to bring an unfamiliar crowd to the front. The Prairie Joggers inject some alt country into their folk Americana framework.  With some added pomp we hear some similarities to early Alabama Shakes with some of the added alt country appeal of Hiss Golden Messenger.  We dig it.

We’re addicted to the care and candid feel we’ve come to association with Humbird.  The Minnesota based songwriter adapts silky smooth on her new single Right On

She retains an urban Americana feel while embracing some of the contemporary vibe known to early Norah Jones.  It’s heard in her performance and in the arrangement as a whole. The mellow keyboard and shuffling drum roam like a midwest aura trapped in the big city.

The single was dropped with a 4/12 album announcement of the same name.  Get in now, you’re still early.
