Retro Pop Revival – NINA X Radio Wolf, Code 64

She can’t stop, she won’t stop, she really shouldn’t stop.  Where synthwave stalwarts have lost their lust for fresh content NINA carries on convincingly.  Never to be derivative, she evolves into dark exotic gothic electro realms on the new single My Dark, a collaboration with Radio Wolf.

NINA and Radio Wolf – My Dark

Much like the icons of hip hop and pop the collabs seem to excite NINA in a way thats aesthetically cleansing.  Team work makes the dream work, as these collaborations have shown her in new exciting shades and shadows.  My Dark, being one of her fittingly darkest moments.

The duo explore their creative limits further with the single Bluesbreaker.  Like a futuristic guitar lusting vixen Bluesbreaker feels double seeped in theatrical thematic flavor.  The vocal is really effective and the alliterations add to the sex appeal.  Imagine a collaboration between Madonna and ZZ Top.  Take a listen.

The two new collabarations between NINA and Radio Wolf are featured on our Best New Synthwave Playlist.

Code 64 embraces the ethos of retrofuturism on their effective new single The Shape.  The single retains a retro pop essence while adding some abstract underground flavor courtesy of the unorthodox vocal.  In that way it reflects artists like Depeche Mode or Human League who had both mainstream and underground success.

Code 64 charts that influence in a way that stays true to the era without sounding like a replication.  We also hear some modern influence ranging from the industrial pop of NIN to a melodic sensibility of The Killers.    Our kind of synthwave.

Hear The Shape now on our Best New Synthwave Playlist.
