Slower Avenue caught our attention with the release of their dynamic new EP Glance. The compositions equally blend an influence of cold wave, new wave, and synth pop. It’s gloriously nostalgic, with the title track bearing an influence of Joy Division, New Order, and The Cure in a way that reigns authentic.
Alternatively, the catchy melodic Dark Shades adds an influence of retro pop into that mix. It stays true to its dark instincts while flirting with movements in 80s pop, similar to the aesthetic of Depeche Mode and their associated acts. Altogether its a strong statement from this Vietnam based retro project.

Cyberpunk, Synthwave, and Darkwave converge convincingly in the works of Destryur. Their new single Lucifemme (Ft STRNGR) is a dark electro epic. The vibe is illuminated by a creepy music video(see above) that features horrific visions of the occult. It plays to your demonic sexual tendencies in a way that reflects the bands gothic nature. Some like it darker. The video is awesome and the songs a banger. Check it out.

Dressed differently, Old Rodeo might be an indie pop hit. Near Dark arranges it in a way that pulls it firmly into the realm of synthwave. It adds some fresh new melodic tension to the movement, injecting an influence of indie projects who were also influenced by 80s alternative music. In that way we hear an inspiration of The National combined with the classic influence of Human League or Tubeway Army. It’s great contrast. We can dig it.

Canadien artist Polar Baron drops an intriguing synthwave instrumental, Horizons. Various synths bop and weave curiously, creating cinematic tension. It’s like a robotic duet where the two electric personalties flirt contagiously. Melodic and full of progressive quip, we adore it.
