Hip Hop Discovery – Iman Europe x Kaelin Ellis, Switch, Alyssa Jane x SV, Teefa

Iman Europe and Kaelin Ellis caught our attention with the expressive nature of their new single moneymorphosis.  Vibrant and fresh with an edgy urban vibe, the track reflects the abstract alternative R&B hip hop blend familiar to Childish Gambino and SZA.  There’s an art aesthetic that effectively cites nostalgic influences while offering new energy and an omnipresent spirit.

“Money gonna make me change,” as if they know the devils watching.  Recited over this sultry vibe it suggests metaphorical commentary that knows the new power of our sexualized devices.  You can get that bag, but how you get there might not be worth it.

Canadien hip hop artist Switch collabs with underground icon Stoupe the enemy of Mankind and Slaine on the epic new single One Step Closer.  Fresh lyrical sentiments slash cliches on these inspired verses.  All blessed with a believable scorn.  The voices complement each other in a way that blends the legacies of the Beastie Boys and Method Man with modern artists like Young Stitch and La Coka Nostra.  Check it out.

We dig the sultry infectious vibe Alyssa Jane brings to every collaboration with SV.  This effective collaboration delivers on every release and their new single Kerosene is true to form.  We’ve been fans for a bit and the quality control is on point.

The beats are succulent and Alyssa Jane is a revelation, flowing effectively between soul and syncopated lyrical lush.  It’s a sure things for fans of SZA and Dojo Cat, and a clear crossover hit that could hit indie pop fans, alt r&b, and alt hip hop fans equally.  Feel the vibe.

Teefa does old school proper on her new release 5:00AM.  It starts with the beat, featuring classic soul backing samples reminscent of Marvin Gaye’s I Want You To Want Me era.  The pulsating beat illuminates the nostalgic reference, while her lyrical prowess amplifies the cinematic presence.

Teefa simply takes you away with one sweeping verse fit to crown her underground royalty.  Influenced by the likes of Queen Latifah and MC Lyte, Teefa reminds us that boom bap hits infectious when it’s a woman behind a mic.  Give us more of this vibe.
