Textured guitars full of melodic expression lead into the shimmering layers of a scratchy beat and polar acoustic guitars as the singers rare croon breaks the surface. The sonic cinema progresses righteously as Foggy Stepper is full of saturated brilliance. The new single from Rain Gregorio is a great composition at its roots. Embracing their aesthetic as recording artists the project offers a lateral sonic experience.
This kind of melodic noise reflects bedroom pops influence on a writer with indie rock instincts. In that way we hear a semblance of Clairo, Car Seat Headrest, and The Districts. We can dig it.

It’s a slow burn thats worth the payoff. Jodie Nicholson took us on a journey with her recent What If I. At its core she mirrors recent trends known to indie pop with her smooth lush delivery. There’s a nostalgic interruption, initially from a vibey keyboard that danced around the main progression, and later in textured synth layers that reflect an influence of retro wave.
The artist herself embraces the comparisons that combine her as a blended version of M83 and Laura Marling. Thats a good place to be.

The songwriter experience is both a blessing and a curse. Like a lot of artists, we live within our art as it invades every mundane moment. It’s great medicine but it’s reasonably abnormal. That sentiment is amplified in the video for Kickin’, the new single from Devarrow.
This cool guitar vibe with its epic late vamp should draw comparisons to Kurt Vile. Devarrow has their own trademark croon, fairly smoother than Vile’s but retaining that playful fun. Music feels fun in this world, or at least it’s offering some effective release. Enough to keep you “Kickin” no matter what the setting deep into your last days. Dig the video for context.

M Rosenbaum caught our attention with her new single Smiling In Your Face. Embracing that indie pop and indie rock combination familiar to Boy Genius and that plethora of associated acts, Smiling In Your Face is easy listening on wax while hiding an explosive in concert nature.
It’s a testament to the artists smooth delivery and how the tube tones guitars are baked and layered into the mix. The affect is immersive, turn it up and let it engulf you. M Rosenabuam is a dream.
