Retro Pop Revival – Color Theory x My Manifesto, EM_LEN, Attic Eyes, Rare Kreature,

Color Theory and My Manifesto collaborate brilliantly on the new nostalgic masterpiece that is Without a Doubt.  Recalling the legacies of Depeche Mode and blending that with similar adaptations by Boy Harsher and Drab Majesty, Without a Doubt finds authenticity beyond the derivative.  It’s a testament to the singers rare delivery and the spatial mix, one that shines every element in a clear legibility and presence.  It’s a strong release from these underground heroes.

Em_Lem – Self Control

EM_LEN caught our attention with their new single Self Control.  We love this quirky new wave energy and how the production cites classic hits and less travelled sonic realms.  For us it recalls projects like Tubeway Army and their trailblazing leader Gary Numan.  We also hear evidence of their prescribed influences like Thomas Dolby, Thompson Twins, and New Order.  We simply adore Self Control.

Attic Eyes – The Moon (Cold Choir Remix)

Classic techno electro and nostalgic wave blend elegantly on the Cold Choir Remix of The Moon, the new single from Attic Eyes.  You can hear a semblance of a cyberpunk aesthetic but with less of the dubstep inspired pump known to this release.

Most magnetic though are the vocals that arrive after the long dramatic intro.  They add a theatrical gothic style contrast, one that changes the mood of the whole work.  It’s a solid crossover effort, one that should excite synthwave fans and energize any night club looking for some retro to compliment the relentless drum and bass.

We dig the infectious new wave nature of Serrated Luvvv, the new single from Rare Kreature.  They bring a snappy beat into a moody gothic post punk aesthetic.  With chorus drenched guitars and melancholy melodic voicings they embrace nostalgia and the contrast it offers their singers rare delivery.

Fans of Drab Majesty, Bauhaus, and more recently Korine will connect with this vibe.  Paired with this new wave energy, we think it has major crossover appeal.

Serrated Luvvv will be on Spotify next month, until then purchase it on their Bandcamp
