Hip Hop Discovery -UglyFace, Ghost Cartridge, Albert Dalton, MC Type

The rappers who make up UglyFace collectively embody a filthy flow full of stylistic inflection and candid swagger.  It’s on full display with their new single Guilt Trip

Featuring elements of classic soul, the beat has a cinematic affect.  The various MC’s add to the reference, each bringing their own unique character to accelerate the influence of classic soul into rap.  In the final moments the beat relents to show the origins of this melodic sample.  It’s absolutely delectable.  Dig in.

Ghost Cartridge – Xzibit

Hip Hop is another creative flex for the duo of Mantrakid and The EquaZn, the masterminds behind Ghost Cartridge.  After stepping away from the scene Mantrakid returns from a hiatus he spent mostly in the indie game world to reconnect with EquaZn on a flurry of fresh releases.  Joined by Baggy Lean and D-Sisive on the undeniable Xzibit, Ghost Cartidge keeps it catchy. The group leans into their classic influences and add iconic scratching to support the nostalgic tension of their lyrical jest.

The alternative Digger of Graves, featuring Ol’ Gorilla Bones, is gloriously abstract.  It flaunts a percussive poetry with accessible verbiage within unrelenting tangled alliterations.  A partnership that has no bounds, Ghost Cartridge is a project to keep an eye on.

Albert Dalton – U.B.I.

Albert Dalton is lucid on the prophetic new single U.B.I.  With eyes wide open Dalton stands out as an urban poet.  Void of a beat, the music honors the brevity of this context.  It’s both captivating and cinematic, fit for a difficult montage willing to emulate these rhymed visions in reality.

“I mean no disrespect,” Dalton insists.  Even with his admittingly dry eyes he can still see the grime and the demise of the new disorder dynamic.  It an’t all good baby baby, not these days.  For us the track connects with the complex works known to Kendrick Lamar.

Here for a good time, not a long time.  The sentiment rings true on Full Life Crisis, the new single from The MC Type featuring Sage Francis.  As the title suggests, the song is somewhere between a tribute for the forever reckless and a warning for new social comorbidities.  We’re talking about our new sensationalized relationship between sex and drugs, a detail at the core of this described eternal bender.

Full Life Crisis creatively charts the when, where, and how.  Within the jest there’s the presence of knowing that it ends badly, it lurks beneath every description in a way that validates the works good intentions.  They’re saying you shouldn’t make the same mistakes they did, but in a way that makes you really want to.  For fans of Atmosphere and Prof.
