Best New Rock – No Lights, SAMSARA. , Shaky, Rrest

We were drawn into the expressive guitar work at the onset of Dream Eraser, the new single from No Lights.  Already intrigued, we found ourselves thrilled with every delectable progression.  From the earnesty of the vocal to the captivating push of the drums, Dream Eraser is an indie rock triumph.

No Lights convincingly blends an 80s alternative influence akin to the Cure with new indie rock influences like Interpol and even a classic alternative inspiration of dare we say Pearl Jam.  At least that’s how we’re hearing it.  Dig in.

Dream Eraser is featured on our Best New Rock Playlist.

Indie rocks first wave gets reinvigorated in the works of SAMSARA.  A pair of new singles stand out as instant classics.  PIECE OF ME could be compared to a blend of King Of Leon and TV On The Radio. IN TOO DEEP retains the Kings of Leon sensibility while adding an influence of The Strokes as well as classic emo and even indie pop.  Both songs are blessed with an energetic youthful performance full of fury and the joy of discovery.

That discovery being rock’s liberating truth.  Reigning from the outskirts of NYC, SAMSARA stands in the shadows of CBGB’s legacy.  We’re due for some new rock heroes from the storied locale.  We think both singles are worthy of a breakthrough.

If you were to compare Shaky to The Clash they would likely embrace the association.  Wearing your influences on your sleeve is fair game when you’re able to inject your unique essence into that inspiration, and in that way the single Earthquake is a triumph.  Fans of the Clash are sure to celebrate this invigorated, angst filled take on this classic style.  Earthquake is rich with disdain and visceral energy.  It snarls in a way that reflects Strummers first ascent, before major label polish threatened the band’s punk integrity.  Shaky is an energizing, refreshing new discovery we can’t wait to hear more from.

Rrest caught our attention with their new single French Connection.  Instantly infectious with a nostalgic essence, French Connection cites an influence of 90s underground while updating that inspiration into the indie music canon.  It’s a testament to both the rhythm design and the timbre of the stacked vocal.

Rrest is a dynamic musical entity out of Atlanta. Helmed by creative force Wes Ables, and guitarist/ producer Andy Teems. They have a penchant for pushing boundaries and defying genre constraint.
