Best New Indie – Christian Sean, Girl Wilde, Julesy, Leyya

Christian Sean bears his electric soul on his new single Cold Water.  The songwriter blends his influences intriguingly on this colorful release.  There’s an essence of Prince’s eccentric funky soul permeating from his vocal part, while the music wades into industrial inspired experimental electro indie realms familiar to Animal Collective or Dirty Projectors.

Cold Water never repels its catchy warmth, winding you deeper into its sonic brilliance to the very last moment. Hear for yourself.

Girl Wilde is lucid on her new single Cognitive Dissonance.  The single is a revelation.  The performance responds to the brevity of these lyrics appropriately.  The angst ridden outburst and candid nature screams truth.  It’s that authenticity and genuine fervor that makes this moment believable.

Stylistically it graces the outskirts of the mainstream, bridging the gap between Kacey Musgraves and Chappell Roan convincingly.  The reference adapts intriguingly on their other recent single Crocodile Tears.  It’s an eclectic angle with real crossover potential.  The buzz is worthy.  You’re still early.

Julesy sounds like they know the sting of being Left Behind.  The title of their new single suits the inspired tirade.  The video finds the band giving it their all to an empty ampitheater. The band embraces the moment gracefully.

Various scenes find the singer walking the halls of an abandoned school or skipping through some forrest dream world where suggestive visions offer complex context.  The associations add depth to their music poetic depth.  It’s damn catchy too, with inklings of fifth wave emo and 80s alternative baked into their indie rock aesthetic.  We’re into it.  Stylistically we hear shades of Alvvays and Hatchie.  Dig in.

Leyya caught our attention with their new single Hundred Or More.  The layered contrast is magnetic.  It seduces you into a groovy musical trance, one that finds you swaying dreamily to the songs groovy beat.  The vocals add a cinematic tension, with the polar deliveries amplifying the collective narrative.  Stylistically it’s a sure thing for fans of 90s trip hop who dabble in the realms of modern indie pop.  We can dig it.
