Women of Trip Hop – Hatori, vampireluvr, Ducks!

We dig the cinematic essence of Eleanor, the new single from Hatori and Nethermead.  It’s an immersive musical world.  When you enter this sonic scape, you enter a journey where the vocals are your spiritual guide.

“Do it for me.  Do it for love.”  There’s a mischievous underlayer to their delivery.  Paired with the imaginative production, you can’t deny it’s ripe for a True Detective style soundtrack.  We love it.

If you’re looking to enhance your seasonal playlist then you can start with the dub trip hop brilliance of vampireluvr.  Their new single Helpless is a revelation.  Her voice is rare and intoxicating.  It’s alters between a rich and lush timbre.  She shows elegant control over its utility.

The affect is hypnotic.  Paired with the songs dramatic progressive feel, vampireluvr bridges the gap between James Blake, Sinead O’Connor,  and Fiona Apple.  Helpless is a triumph.  It’s the kind of single that could launch her.  Hear for yourself.

We like what we’re hearing from German electro duo Ducks!  Their aesthetic blends the worlds of trip hop, indie pop, and dance pop.  In that way it resonates with projects like Sylvan Esso, while suggesting how they might have adapted if they were more influenced by Radiohead.

The new single Where Were You fits the bill.  It’s crazy catchy with some swagger and pomp that reflects an influence of David Byrne.  This is our kind of art pop.  Get in there, its a good time.
