Best New Indie Folk – Tig, Maisy Grace, Tyler Parsons

There’s a haunting calm to Morning Pages, the new single from Tig. It’s heard in the living room piano that patiently plots a melodic chart for the intuitive singer to ponder. She’s refreshingly classic while leaning into something entirely new. Iconic spirits walk her halls, some as temporary specters who still exist in other realms of Earth. From Feist to David Gray to Norah Jones you have a careless framework of her sound. Assimilations just aren’t fair anymore. Tig is in a league all their own.

There’s a dark drama to Colours of the Storm, the new single from Maisy Grace. Its oddly soulful and vintage despite its indie pop heart. Curious melodic movements offer delicate surprise but Grace can always keep things pretty. Its a testament to her voices lush presence. The Cornish darling warps her tribal exotic essence with furious brilliance. Dare we hear an influence of Jeff Buckley? Oh, it’s so nice.

Parsons caught our attention with their new single My Dog. This kind of rare atmoshperic acoustic rock blend recalls the magnificence of turn of the centure Astrelwerks icons Doves. Clever layers and thoughtful songwriter still have a place in our heart. Parsons does it well. The video is well shot too. Nice!
