Retro Pop Revival – Seasurfer, Aleesha Dibbs, Franklin Gothic

Seasurfer caught our attention with their new single Crazy. We dig their dark gothic new wave blend. A haunting vocal laments over lofi drums and creeping synths on this convincing single. The groups mastermind Dirk Knight has already collaborated with scene giants such as Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) and John Fryer (4AD, This Mortal Coil).

Check out Aleesha Dibbs and her new single Waiting Game. Brooding but catchy, Dibbs vocal is steeped in contrast as it gives beneath curious playful synths with dark moody underlayers. Dibbs is embracing new dark pop inclinations following a dynamic history sharing the stage with industry giants. Aleesha Dibbs has performed and toured nationally and internationally alongside, The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs & The Greenhornes), The Temper Trap, Angus & Julia Stone, & more!

Portland-based songwriter Jay DiBartolo is standing out with his intriguing project Franklin Gothic. Subtle shades of 80s alternative bring a nostalgic essence to works like his recent Echoes. This kind of smart yet catchy songwriting retains an element of surprise while plotting some familiar dance steps for you to trot to.
