Best New Indie – néomí, Iskwé, Edgar Homeros, little luna

Netherland native néomí opens up another stylistic realm with her catchy new single somebody’s daughter.  We’ve shared our admiration for this buzz worthy singer more than once already, so we’re stoked to hear that she’ll be featured at SXSW this year.  The new single offers an upbeat indie pop realm to compliment her notable indie folk releases.  With somebody’s daughter we get a chance to groove after we wipe away the tears after hearing songs like her cherished garden

The up and coming international star is inspired by artists like bon iver, ben howard, bob dylan phoebe bridgers, the paper kites and novo amor.  Like them she proves again that she has her own eclectic stylistic scope.  We’re already hooked, but if she’s new to you, you’re still early.

Indie folk and ethereal pop merge convincingly on Waiting For The Laughter, the new single from Iskwé.  More than just a clever arrangement, the new single is lifted by the singers rare raw vocal delivery.  It suits this dark moody composition, adding to its haunting reverence and scorned narrative.

Exotic melodic touches tag elements of tribal and traditional music intriguingly.  It crosses over into the world music space while retaining an indie pop relevance.  In that way we might draw some comparisons to Florence Welsh with an added influence of Bjork.  This is just to offer a scope of comparison, Waiting For Laughter is refreshingly unique.

“You drank poison…”. It’s the definitive curious moment that draws you into the cautionary warning that is Please Be Careful, the new single from Edgar Homeros. The introductory dream folk mirage collides with an indie pop sensibility on the effective beat drop, one that convincingly transforms the aura of the moment.

Homeros is extremely catchy without ever losing his measured charm. He shares these truths like a secret, delicately divulging them with a soft emotional persuasion.  Stylistically it it adds an added abstract indie folk reverence to the chill pop vibes known to Biig Piig and Steve Lacy.

If you’re looking for a refreshing upbeat indie pop vibe you can’t do much better than fool, the new single from little luna.  Clever melodic surprise collides with a simply irresistible hook.  In that way it retains an indie sensibility while offering some real mainstream commercial potential.

In both sound and aesthetic it convincingly blends the worlds of Maggie Rogers and The War On Drugs.  We also hear evidence of Brandi Carlile and Kathleen Edwards.  It’s smart pop songwriting and we can’t get enough of it.
