Father John Misty has a few songs we absolutely love and Hollywood Cemetery Forever Sings is definitely one of them. Albeit we love the original version, any attempt at a cover is met with extreme caution. Alas, we found ourselves an exceptional version in the recent remodel by artist Lou Monroe. Her version is absolutely breathtaking and really illuminates the haunting underlayer at the root of this narrative. She adds a bit of cinematic style a la Lana Del Rey. This is something special.

Master Peace is clever in his namesake, and clever as a songwriter. His recent Sucker Punch is a catchy eclectic knockout. It features traits familiar to Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, and Mk.gee. That’s some good company and Master Peace is worthy of the association. He’s got an urban touch within a refreshing R&B infused indie rock canon. We love that blend.

Pineapple and Kiwi are the fruit of summer but Mangoes is the new banger from cool kid band Babe Rainbow. All the colors come together convincingly on this infectious masterpiece. An unlikely vocal style finds catchy brilliance as cascading guitars chime around a central beat. There’s something classic folky rocky at the root of their psych pop sound. In that way the arrangement reminds us of the most complicated moments on Big Theif’s Dragon Mountain masterpiece. Babe Rainbows singer adds a unique touch that settles impeccably into this dense arrangement. Man, you gotta dig it!

Smart pop fans will find a lot to love with the project Spun Mellow. Already fully stocked with a stash of dope music videos and loads of delectable ear candy, the artist adds to his bounty with his recent single It’ll Work Itself Out. The vibe suggests he loaded up on the recent RSD OG Phoenix drop as the vibe bears an influence to the French Pop bands early work. That’s a great thing, we freakin’ love that era and the way they show that guitars can make sense in a synth pop aesthetic. Put on your dancing shoes but dance cool, cause this is cool kid music.
