Best New Indie – Stonefruit, &Tilly, Tessa Rae

Acknowledging petting zoos and science museums as preferred venues suggest Montana band might Stonefruit have a sense of humor, but their new single Toothbath is just righteous refreshing indie rock. A little unpredictable and paying subtle homage to a lineage of Neil Young or Big Thief; the band knows how to work their way around an arrangement. The impressive enchanting lead vocals don’t hurt either. Their a sure thing for fans of Clairo or Phoebe Bridgers, but Stonefruit could pull in some rocker kids tired of the scenes indie pop inclinations. We dig their dark angle.

When &Tilly sings “There’s so much on my mind” in the opening of her wondrous new single, it immediate foreshadows the songs unlikely essence. “Life That Can’t Be Shared” is a dreamy singer songwriter retreat, a calm respite from some of the duos darker electro infused work. Soft pads and downtempo beats get exchange for sputtering strings and calculated acoustics. The singers trademark quiver still adds a haunting affect, but the sentiment is full of wonder rather than worry. Adapting her voice elegantly into this moment, the celebrated singer shows she can make cinematic dreamscape escapes. We just love everything she touches.

You can trust that Tessa Rae’s voice is going to make you feel something. Her singles new title Trust The Feeling lands like a reassurance. Anchored by her lush sultry voice and empowered by enviable thirst traps and art museum worthy poses, Rae’s new video challenges the explanation you gave your girlfriend that you’re watching it ’cause you “just like the song.” She’s a vixen toeing the line between Lana Del Rey and Sade. Style marks like that likely land on your late night playlist.
