Undiscovered Gems – The North Country, Bathe Alone, Morning Arcade, Leftwich

Invisible Hand is magnificent rare nostalgia.  The new single from The North Country brilliantly blends an influence of David Bowie, The Talking Heads, the B52s, and Prince.  Specifically how these bands sounded in the early 80s.  All with their own distinct sound in that time and all finding relevance within the stylistic treats heard on this imaginative gem.

Eccentric pomp and flash with theatrical punk attitude provide an optimal landscape for proficient synth sculpturs to flaunt their vibrant dialed discoveries.  The attention to detail sparkles from the singers to every sonic input.  Invisible Hand is delightful.

Bathe Alone – Gemini

Bathe Alone shines within the performance video for their new angel Gemini.  Songwriter Bailey Crone makes sense with a full band, offering an intriguing arrangement where the guitars effectively blend to create a haunting harmonious resonance. Gemini is an effective song at its essence.  Paired with the video, it’s truly something special.  The way that they play together and the sincerity and conviction they show for their work should be the envy of bedroom producers everywhere.

If we had our choice we’d vote that the video is the ideal way to experience this work other than seeing it in concert if you can.  Stylistically we think it’s a sure thing for fans of Japanese Breakfast or Mitski.  We think it appeals to indie rock fans in general.  Gemini delivers.

Melancholy dreamy dance vibes break through on Aerochrome, the new single from Morning Arcade.  The band adapts that trademark nostalgic pump revived by The War On Drugs and adds some synthwave pop style color.

The synthwave vibes can be heard in both the vocal and the timely synth.  We also hear an influence of Kurt Vile in the mid song shift and swaggered guitar solo.  The influences are present but the blend is all their own.

Leftwich caught our attention with their new single Was It Really All That Bad?  It’s a rare nostalgic gem with innovative production that stands out on its own merit.  Its first striking detail comes from the intriguing percussion design in the verse section.  The vocal adds some hypnotic melodic glue, and the chorus offers some proper punch to send you from hypnotic to a fury.

Stylistically it recalls the inventive aura known to early new wave adopters like New Order and Human League.  Leftwich add some modern dream pop sensibility to update those vibes proper.  We can dig it.
